West Athens is a census-designated place (CDP) in Los Angeles County, California, United States. The population was 9,101 at the 2000 census. There were 2,573 households out of which 45.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 45.4% were married couples living together, 28.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 18.3% were non-families. 14.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 4.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.54 and the average family size was 3.83.
