George Washington Preparatory High School is a public secondary school in the Westmont section of unincorporated Los Angeles County, California that is part of the Los Angeles Unified School District. Washington High is part of Local District 8 of the LAUSD and although it has a Los Angeles address, it is not located in the city limits of LA. Established in 1927, Washington prep serves grades 9 through 12 on a traditional single track school calendar.


The school serves many areas in South Los Angeles and unincorporated areas around South Los Angeles, including West Athens and Westmont. As of school year 2005-06, the school has an enrollment of 3,041 with an African American and Hispanic/Latino majority.


The school's mascot is the General, an obvious reference to the school's namesake George Washington. The school colors are red and blue.

Westmont is a census-designated place (CDP) in Los Angeles County, California, United States. The population was 31,623 at the 2000 census. Generally this area is considered unincorporated South Los Angeles. Services are provided by County agencies and not by the City of Los Angeles.

As of the census2 of 2000, there were 31,623 people, 9,255 households, and 7,089 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 6,599.8/km² (17,103.0/mi²). There were 10,186 housing units at an average density of 2,125.9/km² (5,509.0/mi²).
