Van Nuys Middle School or VNMS is a public middle school located in Vesper Avenue, Van Nuys, California. Founded in 1915, Van Nuys is part of Local District 2 of the Los Angeles Unified School District. It serves grades 6 through 8 on a traditional single track school calendar. As of 2005-06, VNMS has 1,593 students enrolled, more than 3/4 of them being Hispanic or Latino. 85% of the school's students are participating in free or reduced-price lunch program; and of the 40% English language learners, 93% of them use Spanish as their Home language.


VNMS, aims "to provide all children with a quality instructional program, and a safe, secure, and caring environment so that they will demonstrate the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional outcomes necessary to be happy, successful adults in a changing, diverse world."

About the Neighborhood

Van Nuys is a district in the San Fernando Valley region of the City of Los Angeles, California. The TV show Beverly Hills 90210 was filmed on a set in Van Nuys. Van Nuys is in the heart of the San Fernando Valley and home to about 100,000 people; the main thoroughfare, Van Nuys Boulevard, is noted for its car dealerships. It also functions similar to a "county seat" for the Valley, with its Government Center (Erwin Street Mall) containing a branch of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Van Nuys police station, the Van Nuys offices for Los Angeles City Hall, Van Nuys State Office Building and a branch of the Los Angeles Public Library.
