How to Enroll
Valley Alternative is one of the Los Angeles Unified Magnet Schools. In December each year the Choices Brochure is published. It lists all Magnet Schools and where they are located. It also contains the application. It is mailed to all students who are currently enrolled in the Los Angeles Unified School System. Brochures can also be picked up at local public schools during December. It is necessary to reside in Los Angeles in order to attend any magnet school.
In order to enroll in Valley Alternative, the application form must be submitted to the Magnet Office. This deadline is usually in mid-January for the following school year. The Magnet Office determines the student's points. We receive an active list and a waiting list by the beginning of May.In early December and early January we do school tours for parents who wish to apply. The only way to enroll in Valley Alternative is to go through the magnet selection process.
