“Forth and Forever Forward.” Named after the famous writer, Robert Louis Stevenson Middle School is a public junior high school located in South Indiana Street, Los Angeles, California. The school is part of Local District 5 of the Los Angeles Unified School District and was opened back in 1926. It serves grades 6 through 8 under a traditional single track school calendar. The school's colors are red and black; the school paper is "The Pirate"; the school magazine is Tusitala (a magazine of stories, poems, and artwork by students); and the yearbook is titled Treasure Chest. All of the school's traditions are patterned after one of Mr. Stevenson’s most popular books, Treasure Island. As of 2005-06, Stevenson MS has an enrollment of 2,603 students, comprised mostly of Hispanic/Latino children. 95% of their students are participating in free or reduced-price lunch program; 50% of them are English language learners.
