Southeast Middle School or simply known as SEMS, is a public middle school located in Tweedy Boulevard, South Gate, California. The school relieved South Gate Middle School when it opened back in 2004. SEMS serves grades 6 to 8 students under a traditional single track school calendar. It is part of Local District 6 of the Los Angeles Unified School District.


As of school year 2005-06, Southeast has a student body of 1,368 students comprised of approximately 99% Hispanic/Latino children. 95% of these students are participating in free or reduced-price lunch program. 42% of them are English language learners.

History

2004 - Francisco Sepulveda Middle School opened. Prior to the opening of the school, it was known as Southeast Area New Middle School #3.

South Gate, city (1990 pop. 86,284), Los Angeles co., S Calif., an industrial suburb of Los Angeles; inc. 1923. Among the city's manufactures are metal, electrical, paper, and rubber products; consumer goods; machinery; foods; chemicals; cutting tools; and furniture. The city's population increased significantly in the late 20th century.
