South Gate Senior High School is a public secondary school located in Firestone Blvd., South Gate, California. South Gate high is part of Local District 6 of the Los Angeles Unified School District and was established way back in January 1930. The school serves grades 9 through 12 under a single track school calendar. South Gate's school colors are black, white and red while the school mascot is the ram.


The "Home of the Rams" was home to 3726 students in school year 2005-06. Like most schools in the neighborhood, the student body is predominantly Hispanic/Latino, with other races/ethnicities such as White, African American, Pacific Islander, and Filipino contibuting more or less 1% in the total number of enrollees. 79% of South Gate's students are participating in free or reduced-price lunch program; 26% of them are English language learners.

South Gate, city (1990 pop. 86,284), Los Angeles co., S Calif., an industrial suburb of Los Angeles; inc. 1923. Among the city's manufactures are metal, electrical, paper, and rubber products; consumer goods; machinery; foods; chemicals; cutting tools; and furniture. The city's population increased significantly in the late 20th century.

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 96,375 people, 23,213 households, and 20,056 families residing in the city. The population density is 5,048.9/km² (13,084.6/mi²).
