San Fernando Middle School is a public junior high school located in North Brand Boulevard, San Fernando, California. The school is part of Local District 2 of the Los Angeles Unified School District. It serves 6th through 8th grade students following a traditional single track school calendar. It was founded in 1952 and as of school year 2005-06, has an enrollment of 2,131 students. The students and staff of San Fernando MS are also called the "Falcons."

History
1896 - Three small school districts merged to form San Fernando Union High School District, with classes held on the second floor of the Morningside brick grammar school building.
1906 - The school's present site was purchased and construction of the 3-building campus began.
1913 - The campus served as a junior college.
1915 - School reverted back to a high school.
1919 - San Fernando became a 6-yr high school to relieve overcrowding in the neighboring elementary schools.
1920 - The campus expanded to 5 buildings.
1952 - In February, San Fernando Junior High School was born when the senior high school moved to its new campus, leaving the junior high school on their own campus.
1971 - Sylmar earthquake damaged some areas of the school.
1994 - Northridge earthquake once again damaged the school.
1994 - All former junior high schools were called middle schools.
1996 - All middle schools housed 6th, 7th and 8th grade students instead of 7th, 8th and 9th.

About the Neighborhood
San Fernando, city (1990 pop. 22,580), Los Angeles co., S Calif., in the San Fernando valley; inc. 1911. Among its industries are clothing and electronics. The valley, first entered by Europeans in 1769, was early used for journeys to N California. Gold was found in 1842 before the big gold strike. Founded in 1874, San Fernando is the oldest city in the valley. San Fernando Mission (1797) is nearby.
