Betty Plasencia Elementary School is a public elementary school located in Cortez Street, Los Angeles, California; it stands on Temple Street very close to downtown Los Angeles. It is a pre-kindergarten to 5th grade educational establishment that is part of Local District 4 of the Los Angeles Unified School District. Opened back in 1884, Betty Plasencia School was originally called Cortez Street referring to the street that ran past the front of the school. As the school expanded across that street and made it the quad area of the campus, the school was then renamed as a tribute to Betty Plasencia who worked for the school for many years.

Betty Plasencia Elementary School is actually two schools in one, consisting of a Home School of about 1300 students and a Math/Science Magnet of about 140 students. We operate on a year-round 90/30 calendar and have 4 tracks. The Magnet school is in session along with TRACK A.

About the Neighborhood

Angelino Heights is a small district in Los Angeles, California. It is most notable for its impressive wellkept Victorian era residences, although these are small in number.

Originally spelled Angeleno Heights, Angelino Heights is the oldest district in Los Angeles outside of downtown. Founded in 1886, it was originally connected to downtown by cable car and later, electric streetcar. Like Echo Park and Chinatown, it is known for its steep hills. The district contains several notable examples of Victorian architecture, especially on Carroll Avenue. One of these residences served as the house used for the TV show "Charmed", used in the show as a San Francisco Victorian residence.
