History
Before the Spring of 1956, Robert E. Peary Middle School was part of a six-year school known as Gardena High and was considered as the third oldest school in the Los Angeles Unified School District at that time.
Back then, Peary MS was on double-day sessions with senior high classes in the morning and junior high classes in the afternoon because of crowded conditions.
Some issues were also handled and addressed when the school had two separate administrations governing the school and at the same time, with the building of a separate senior high school.
Peary Middle School's overpass connects the north and south campuses so that students and teachers can access both sides without crossing the street. With nearly 2500 students, Peary is now a four track year-round school.
