Pacoima Middle School is a public middle school located in Laurel Canyon Boulevard, Pacoima, California. It is part of Local District 2 of the Los Angeles Unified School District and follows a traditional single track LEARN calendar. Originially named Pacoima Junior High School, Pacoima MS started its operations in 1954 and has been serving 6th through 8th grade students, since. The school currenly has 2,147 students enrolled, majority of which are Hispanic or Latino. 87% of them are participating in free or reduced-price lunch program; 41% are English language learners. As stated on its vision statement, Pacoima MS aims to "prepare all students to become responsible, functional and literate citizens able to adapt to, and succeed in a multicultural, technological society."

History
1954 - Pacoima Middle School opened as Pacoima Junior High School. Classes were held on the campus of San Fernando Junior High School as construction of the school was not yet completed.
1957 - In January 31, tragedy struck Pacoima Middle School as a plane crashed on the field killing three pupils and injuring ninety others. Students and teachers were recognized by the community and the American Red cross for their heroic actions.
1969 - A Math Demonstration Center, which is now the magnet center, was built.
1978 - Pacoima Middle School was chosen as a site for two magnet centers permitting students throughout the Los Angeles Unified School District to come to the school to study.
1980 - In spring, Pacoima MS observed its silver anniversary.
1983 - Six bungalows were installed at Pacoima Middle School to relieve overcrowding.
1991 - In July, Pacoima Middle School became a year-round, multi-track school.
1992 - In March, school name was changed to Pacoima a Middle School.
1994 - In July, the school returned to a single track calendar.
1996 - In September, Pacoima Middle School reconfigured, sending its last ninth grade class to San Fernando High School. This resulted in a "true" middle school serving grades 6 - 8.
1997 - In September, Pacoima MS began operating on the LEARN Calendar.
1999 - In the Spring, Pacoima Middle School entered into a partnership with Project GRAD ("Graduation Really Achieves Dreams") which is an early college outreach program. "Connections", a student support service and "Success For All", a reading and writing program, are the two components that were initiated.
2001 - Additional nine bungalows were added to the site.

About the Neighborhood
Pacoima is a district in the San Fernando Valley region of the City of Los Angeles, California.
It is bordered by the Los Angeles districts of Mission Hills on the west, Arleta on the south, Sun Valley on the southeast, Lake View Terrace on the northeast, and by the city of San Fernando on the north. Major thoroughfares include San Fernando Road and Laurel Canyon and Van Nuys Boulevards. The Golden State and Ronald Reagan freeways run through the district.
Juicy Couture, an apparel company, was founded in Pacoima.
