Oliver Wendell Holmes Middle School is a public middle school located in Northridge, California. It was named after Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr. who was an American Philosopher and jurist. It was opened back in January 1966 and is currently offering classes for 6th through 8th grade students, following a traditional single track school calendar. Holmes is part of Local District 1 of the Los Angeles Unified School District. The school's emblem is an Eagle, while the school colors are blue (for loyalty and truth) and white (for purity and honesty).
From the 2006 California Academic Performance Index (API) Base report, the school has an API score of 792, which corresponds to a state rank of 8 (1 is the lowest, 10 is the highest. History
1966 - Holmes was first opened as a Junior High School in January, serving students in grades 7, 8, 9.
1983 - Holmes Middle School's International theme was adopted.
1991 - The Holmes International Flag Court was dedicated to retiring Principal Dr. Jeanie Dreier, to honor her commitment and dedication to the many students she served at Holmes.
1992 - Holmes was reconfigured to become a middle school, serving students in grades 6, 7, 8.
1994 - The Holmes International Humanities Magnet opened in September.
