History

1925 - Florence Griffith Joyner Elementary School opened.

1999 - School, formerly known as 102nd Street Elementary, was renamed in honor of Florence Griffith Joyner, an Olympian who studied at this school.

2005 - Along with 96th Street Elementary School, received a grant to become a N.A.S.A Explorer School, giving it community access to numerous resources including field trips to J.P.L., demonstrations by an astronaut and other personnel complete with artifacts from space missions, and teacher training.
