Bell Academy High school is a secondary school in Bell, California, offering senior high classes for students from 9th through 12th grade. Opened in 1925, Bell High School is part of the District 6 of the Los Angeles Unified School District, following a three track calendar year. Bell High School is the only high school in the City of Bell serving the surrounding cities of Cudahy and Maywood. Some portions of Huntington Park and Maywood are zoned to both Bell High School and Huntington Park High School.

History

1925 - The Bell Unit of the Huntington Park Union High School started operating with only two classes, freshmen and sophomores.

1926 - Bell High joined the Los Angeles School System and became a senior high school. A national symbol, the American Eagle, was chosen to represent the school.

1927 - An Evening High School was organized for the benefit of the citizens of the surrounding communities in September.

1928 - The original sophomore class graduated. The school hymn was penned by Emma Brown. The first issue of The Chimes, Bell's school paper, made its appearance at Bell High School.

1933 - Although Bell was not as damaged as other schools, the San Francisco earthquake made a terrible impact as teachers were forced to conduct classes on tents.

1935 - In ten years, Bell High went from 29 full time and 13 part time teachers to 67 full time instructors.

1941 - The school library had 7,682 books.

1948 - The science department was able to use a full-scale human skeleton for demos.

1950 - Bell High celebrated its silver anniversary.

1952 - The Bell High Chimes placed first in feature writing at the L.A. City College School Newspaper Awards.

1955 - Bell High's first Motorama was held on May 12 on Reeves's Field.

1960 - The new Industrial Arts building and Pool were opened.

1964 - The varsity football team won the Eastern League Championship with a perfect 7-0 record.

1965 - The Bell Varsity Basketball Team was unbeaten, and they were the E. L. Champs.

1971 - Mc Donalds sponsored Bell's first outside-the-league soccer team, allowing players to buy jerseys and compete in the Golden State League.

1975 - The Bell varsity cross country team took Eastern League champs for the first time in the school's history.

1976 - The Bell House, built in 1876, was one-hundred-years old.

1981 - BHS went to the year-round calendar.

1987 - The Whittier earthquake shook Bell.

1989 - New Kids on the Block performed at Bell.

1990 - Doors were opened in the new Mary Ann Sesma Science Center. The soccer team won the Los Angeles Summer Games.

1997 - Maywood and Bell High had a national boxing champ, German Antillon.

2000 - On March 6, 2000, the Bell House was dedicated as a California State Historical Resource.

2001 - Edgar Medinilla completed "The History of Basketball" at Bell for the school website.

2002 - The baseball field got a new look.
