Balboa Gifted

Balboa Gifted Magnet is located in Labrador Street, Northridge, California and is open for children in the 1st through fifth grades. The school is a member of the Los Angeles Unified School District and runs on a single track calendar year. It has served thousands of the most gifted and high ability kids since 1978 and has been recognized as a California Distinguished School. It has been honored by the Los Angeles Unified School District for some ten years in a row as one of its top academic schools, with some of the highest elementary school scores in the State of California.

Balboa Gifted/High Ability Magnet Elementary School employs teachers with 100% full credentials. The school has the most experienced teachers at their disposal, with an average teaching years of 24, way above the state average of 13, with no first year teachers.

The average class size for grade 1 is 20, 17 for grade 2, 20 for grade 3, and both 32 for grades 4 and 5. The student-staff ratios are as follows: 94 Students per paraprofessional staff; 165 Students per office/clerical staff; and 165 Students per other classified staff.

Majority of the students enrolled at Balboa Magnet are White, closely followed by Asian and Hispanic or Latino ethnicities. The rest are Filipinos, African-Americans, and Pacific Islanders.
