Ambler Avenue Elementary School is a Title I public elementary school located in East Sherman Drive, Carson, California. Founded in 1966, Ambler Avenue School is part of Local District 8 of the Los Angeles Unified School District, serving pre-kindergarten through 5th grade following a single track LEARN school calendar.


As of school year 2005-06, Ambler has an enrollment of 660 students. The multi-ethnical student body, comprised mostly of African Americans, has 68% of their students participating in free or reduced-price lunch program. Of the school's 6% English language learners, 98% use Spanish as their home language while approximately 3% use Cebuano/Visayan (a vernacular in the Philippines).

About the Neighborhood

Carson is a city in Los Angeles County, California, United States. As of the 2000 census, Carson had a total population of 89,730. It is located 13 miles south of downtown Los Angeles, and is classified as a suburb of the city. Incorporated on April 4, 1968, Carson is the youngest municipality in the South Bay region of Greater Los Angeles.

Carson's economy is based primarily on manufacturing. About half of Carson's land area is occupied by factories, petroleum refineries, and other industrial buildings and structures. Carson also has a diverse ethnic composition consisting of Latinos, Filipinos, African Americans, Khmers, and Samoans.
