Alexandria Elementary

Located in the mid-city area between Hollywood and Downtown Los Angeles, Alexandria Avenue School has an enrollment of over 1,300 pre-kindergarten up to fifth grade students. This number comprises a mix variety of ethnicities, languages, and cultures that include 94% Hispanic, 3% Filipino, 2% Asian, .5% Caucasian and .5% Black. Majority of the enrollees, 83% of them, speak in Spanish while the remaining number represent fifteen other home languages that include Filipino, Armenian, and Korean. (*Not more than six percent of the total number of students from the school have English as their primary language.)

The School calendar follows the Los Angeles Unified School District's four track year round schedule, with the school year officially kicking off on the 1st of July and ending on the 30th of June. LAUSD's 4-track year round schedule assigns students to one of four tracks or groups, with each of them following the standard pattern of eighteen (18) weeks of attendance and six (6) weeks of vacation. Although the school is open during spring break, it is officially closed during the winter break and most major holidays.

In order to best serve to the educational needs of the students, the school is constantly evaluating and revising their instructional methodologies which zeroes in on literacy, thinking skills, and application of knowledge. These goals have led to many innovative programs, which are supported both by a wide variety of instructional materials and by a commitment to continuous professional development for the teaching staff.
